The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) will this year release a new wireless charging standard, aimed at unifying the industry under one global mobile device charger standard. The Qi2 (pronounced 'chee two') standard will replace the earlier Qi standard, opening up the market to new accessories that wouldn't be chargeable using current flat surface-to-flat surface devices. WPC said Qi2 improves on the efficiency and interoperability of Qi, enabling faster charging for some devices and paving the way for future.
The Wireless Power Consortium leads the world in ensuring consumers, retailers and manufacturers that they can rely on universal, interoperable standards and certifications for wireless devices. Through rigorous testing and certifications, the global body is dedicated to ensuring safe, efficient, and interoperable wireless charging and wireless power. The WPC’s nearly 400 member organisations established and support the current Qi standard and are developing standards for innovative new wireless power applications.
