How to effectively design and optimise the TIA interfaces of LIDAR systems
The article addresses the effects of various input coupling options for transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs) and shed light on easily overlooked consequences for each case. The intent is to help engineers effectively design and optimise the TIA interfaces of a LIDAR system. The author highlights the design challenges when coupling a high gain optical detector to the TIA input. LIDAR input is not a trivial topic, and there are going to be many moving parts in this process. The signal chain is going to be different depending on which design you choose, so it’s important to consider all of your options before choosing the one that is best for your project.
Planning for success in real-time acoustic processing
Low latency, real-time acoustic processing is a key factor in many embedded processing applications, among them voice pre-processing, speech recognition and active noise cancellation (ANC). As real-time performance requirements steadily increase within these application domains, developers need to adopt a strategic mindset to properly accommodate these needs.
Expect more influence from opensource within the cloud domain
Linux is a family of open-source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on in 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word “Linux” in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name “GNU/Linux” to emphasise the importance of GNU software.
Innovation at the speed of business
In 2020 the necessity and power of digital platforms became apparent as businesses grappled with keeping a remote workforce connected. This year, having seen the power and scope of digitisation, the need to justify the increasing turn to technology in order to optimise how an organisation operates in our “new normal”, is a given. There is no doubt that technology has and will continue to underpin almost every facet of an organisations’ existence.
CFOs are increasingly having to build road maps for future investments and align business goals and objectives with the innovation required to perform optimally. All of this places an increasing onus and responsibility on the CIO and IT department to develop a consistent set of operations and infrastructure to run the organisation’s digital foundation.
Perseverance rover collects puzzle pieces of Mars' history
NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover successfully collected its first pair of rock samples, and scientists already are gaining new insights into the region. After collecting its first sample named Montdenier,” Sept. 6, the team collected a second, “Montagnac,” from the same rock Sept. 8. Analysis of the rocks from which the Montdenier and Montagnac samples were taken and from the rover’s previous sampling attempt, may help the science team piece together the timeline of the area’s past, which was marked by volcanic activity and periods of persistent water. “It looks like our first rocks reveal a potentially habitable sustained environment,” said Ken Farley of Caltech, project scientist for the mission, which is led by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Southern California. “It’s a big deal that the water was there a long time.”
