The first of November 2021 is a landmark day for VMware. They are a stand-alone company once again. In a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, VMware and Dell Technologies today finalised the spin-off of Dell’s majority ownership of VMware.
“At VMware, we strive to serve our customers in three unique ways: by being the trusted foundation for their most critical business operations; by offering a best-of-breed, innovative portfolio of best-in-class solutions to fulfil their multi-cloud vision; and by having a broad set of strategic partnerships required to unlock the full potential of multi-cloud,” said VMWare CEO Raghu Raghuram.
“As a stand-alone company, we now have the flexibility to partner even more deeply with all cloud and on-premises infrastructure companies to create a better foundation that drives results. And the increased flexibility we will have to use equity to complete future acquisitions will help us remain competitive.
“The separation will strengthen our mission to be the Switzerland of the cloud industry, uniquely positioned to provide our customers with the best combination of options as we grow our robust ecosystem of partners.”
We expect the benefits of working closely with Dell to be ongoing, as we continue to co-engineer solutions for customers through our new commercial agreement. Our channel synergies, partner and go-to-market programmes with Dell remain robust.
It’s clear that multi-cloud will be the model for digital business for the next 20 years, and in this vibrant, dynamic marketplace the pace of innovation is relentless. VMware is at the centre of it: with VMware cross-cloud services, customers are empowered to unlock the full potential of multi-cloud.
“I’m confident this next step in the VMware journey will enhance our ability to deliver the trusted foundation that our customers rely on to accelerate innovation. That is and will remain our top priority. As you can probably tell, I’m bullish about what this all means for our future. Today is the start of an exciting new era for VMware,” Raghuram said.
