In the wake of the recent global CrowdStrike outage, Obsidian Systems hosted the “CrowdStrike theory in DevSecOps: Providing tangible solutions for future-proofing businesses” discussion on relevant strategies available to companies.
On 19 July, a faulty update of CrowdStrike’s Falcon Sensor software for Windows systems led to widespread failures, causing many systems to enter a continuous reboot cycle. The incident affected millions of devices globally and caused significant disruptions across various sectors – from airlines and healthcare providers to multinational organisations. More than 5 000 flights were cancelled, and numerous businesses experienced downtime.
At the time, Obsidian Systems emphasised the importance of integrating advanced cybersecurity measures into development and operations processes to prevent similar incidents. “The recent CrowdStrike outage underscores the need for extensive disaster recovery plans and more sophisticated DevSecOps practices,” said Muggie van Staden, MD of Obsidian Systems. “Our solutions are designed to help businesses avoid such failures by enhancing their cybersecurity posture and ensuring operational resilience.”
The company’s recent discussion was a deep dive into practical application of CrowdStrike theory within DevSecOps frameworks, focusing on strategies to build resilience and future-proof businesses against similar incidents. “Our goal was to shed light on the unseen challenges in cybersecurity and provide actionable solutions. The positive feedback underscores the importance of these discussions in today’s digital landscape."
Committed to developing business-ready solutions for various industry sectors, the Obsidian Systems discussion highlighted the importance of a mature DevSecOps process that can prevent outages like the CrowdStrike incident and ensure businesses remain secure.
